Early Childhood Education Seminar

The 2011 Columbia County Early Childhood Seminar — “Tots that toot: Sound ideas about sounds we make” — was a resounding success!  Approximately 50 people came together on Saturday, March 12, to learn from Dr. Hal Kacanek about creative ways to help children explore sound in their environment. Dr. Hal shared information about the importance of sound in the lives of young children. Participants used simple, inexpensive materials to make (and take) musical instruments that encourage curiousity, creative thought and exploration. The group participated in a demonstration of ways that sound can be incorporated into an early childhood program, including through storytelling.

Special thanks to the Early Childhood Conference Planning Committee: Lynne Elmer, Carol Behling, Debbie Drew, Danielle Rabl, and Patti Herman.

Grateful thanks also to the following sponsors who contributed funds or products: Open Arms Child Development Center, AMPI, Columbia County Dairy Promotion, and Pierce’s Marketplace Foods.
