Looking for a Child Care provider?

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state agency responsible for licensing and ongoing monitoring of child care centers. DCF has created a website that assists you in locating and learning more about licensed child care in your area. Wisconsin’s Licensed Child Care Search contains information on the location and regulatory history of the almost 6,000 child care centers and day camps licensed by the DCF. Through the Licensed Child Care Search, you can search for licensed child care by county, city, zip code or facility name. Once you have located a child care center or day camp, you can review the facility’s licensing information including compliance history and enforcement actions. Go to the following link to learn more.

Parenting Newsletter

Becoming a parent is an exciting change in your life. But it can be a stressful and trying    time too. The Parenting Newsletters help you find out from child development experts how your baby changes during each month of the first, second and third year.Parents receive the newsletter free. Parenting the First Year is received monthly, while Parenting the Second and Third Years is available bimonthly.

These newsletters are age-paced. For example, the parents of a 24-month-old toddler receive information on the physical, intellectual, and social skills being developed by children this exact age, and learn way to promote their child’s development. Get the latest information on child development, nutrition, health, safety, child care, changes in family life, and much more. Revised in 2006, the newsletters include new articles on if baby is premature, routines for baby, and separation distress, as well as updates on feeding, where baby sleeps, immunizations, and more.

We’re pleased to be able to work with our state UW-Extension program to offer parents the choice of receiving the newsletters electronically (online) or having them sent by postal mail. To sign up to receive the  newsletter by postal mail or email, contact Patti Herman at the UW-Extension office, 608-742-9686 or patti.herman@ces.uwex.edu.

You can also access the letters online, along with many other resources related to parenting, through the following website:

ECE (Early Childhood Education)

UW-Extension Columbia County has worked with the Family Resource Center to produce an early childhood newsletter in the past. Both of our organizations want to support you in the critical work that you do. At the same time, as we looked at the ECE newsletter we realized that it was mostly a compilation of resources from a number of different websites. We decided that by sharing those websites with you it would allow you to access this information on your own. You can access the websites by clicking on the following link:

We also want to make sure that we’re letting you know about educational opportunities in the county that might be of interest to you. We’re going to be doing that in three ways.

 1.  We will be working hard to keep this website up to date with new opportunities. We encourage you to check our website on a regular basis to see what’s new.

2.  We encourage you to visit the Family Resource Center website
                 http://www.renewalunlimited.net/ehs_columbia-county1.htm

3.  If we are offering a special program that we want to make sure you know about we might choose to send a special mailing.  We will try to use email as much as possible in order to reduce costs.  If you are currently receiving the newsletter via postal mail we are asking you to provide us with an email address to use if at all possible.  Please send your name and email address, with a notation that it’s for the ECE newsletter, to Patti Herman at patti.herman@ces.uwex.edu so we can add you to the email list.  If you are not on our ECE mailing list and would like to be added, please contact Patti to let her know.
